Skyler the skunk spent Saturday making a space rocket from a small trash can. He stuck stars and moons all over it.
"Skyler!" called his friend Stella the spider. "What's that strange thing?"
Skyler smiled. "It's my spaceship! I want to skip all the way to the stars!"
Stella spun a web beside the spaceship. "Can spiders come too?"
"Sure!" said Skyler. "Just don't splash in the space puddles!"
Skyler and Stella stepped inside the trash can. Skyler pressed a switch made from a spoon.
Nothing happened.
"Maybe we need snacks for fuel," suggested Stella.
So they stuffed the spaceship with smelly cheese, sticky candy, and spicy crackers.
Still, the spaceship stayed still.
Just then, Snappy the snail slid by. "What are you two trying to do?"
"We want to fly to space, but our ship won't start," explained Skyler.
Snappy studied the trash can. "You need speed! Let me help!"
Snappy stuck his slimy trail under the spaceship. It made the floor slippery!
"Now spin around inside!" Snappy said.
Skyler and Stella spun and spun. The spaceship started to slide down the steep hill!
"We're moving!" squealed Stella.
The spaceship swooshed past Mrs. Squirrel's store. It splashed through a stream. It even scared Mr. Snake who was sleeping in the sun!
Finally, the spaceship stopped at the bottom of the hill.
"Did we reach space?" asked Stella, feeling dizzy.
"Even better!" said Skyler. "We reached the ice cream stand!"
And that's how Skyler, Stella, and Snappy spent the rest of the day—eating star-shaped ice cream and planning their next space adventure!
